Amara Singapore

This is a nice hotel to stay at. Good location in the heart of Tanjong Pagar. Recently refurbished, so everything looks new and good. Room is clean and comfortable, well equipped with a coffee machine, TV with Netflix and Chromecast, and even wine glasses. I liked that the pillows are the fluffy type, unlike the flat ones that most hotels have which are very uncomfortable for sleep. However, there is an obvious design flaw that makes no practical sense. The hook for the bathroom is installed outside the bathroom and within the room (see photo), instead of inside the bathroom. There was also a very disturbing and unexplained incident that took place during my stay. In the middle of the night, around 2.45am-2.50am, the motion sensor panel (see photo) on the ceiling lit up by itself, emitting a dull white light. It woke us up from our sleep. At that point of time, we did not know what that panel is and didn’t even know it could light up. We tried all switches in the room and couldn’t turn that light off. Then, just as bizarrely as it had turned on by itself, it turned off by itself about five minutes later. Having something like that happen in the middle of the night was disturbing and almost eerie. It was difficult to fall back asleep after that. Upon relaying the incident to the staff at reception the next morning, technicians were sent to my room for checks. It was then that I learned that the panel is a motion sensor panel, which under normal circumstances, should not light up on its own. For the panel to light up while we were sleeping is inexplicable, especially since it’s located outside the bathroom. In the end, the technician simply disconnected the wiring to the panel to prevent the issue from recurring. The whole incident was so inexplicable that it almost made me wonder if there was something supernatural about the room.

Liked: Amazingly friendly and helpful staff. Facilities were top notch. Accommodation is large and spacious well suited to the family.

Disliked: the pillows were not to our liking and the mattress was very hard, also when we arrived we were advised that we had been upgraded to a deluxe suit but when we went to the room is contained 2 singles beds, we phoned reception and asked for 1 bed as we were traveling as a couple, the staff quickly found us another room but unfortunately it was not as suitable r nice as the one they upgraded us to and there was no other rooms available. we still did enjoy our stay and would book again.

Liked: This was one of the BEST hotels I have ever been to! Clean, pretty, and the view was everything! The staff's friendliness was also a big plus.
