“Excellent!”
Liked: We stayed at Casa Alexandre because we are hiking the Camino. The day after we stayed here, we realized that we forgot a valuable item in our room. We reached out to the owner/staff and he was kind and generous to drive out to the next town we were staying in to deliver the item to us! We would highly recommend Casa Alexandre.

“Beautiful place to stay on the Camino - highly recommend.”
Liked: Stunning setting, immaculately clean, lovely bed and shower facilities. Outstanding host, incredibly welcoming, friendly and accommodating. The host also had snacks and drinks you could purchase in the evening for a very reasonable cost, we just left the cash in the room, but no major meal facilities so well worth buying something for dinner en route so you can enjoy the beautiful terrace for dinner. There was even a fridge in the room. It was well worth the small deviation off the Camino path and wasn’t far away from the path, and easy to find. Having breakfast overlooking the beautiful hills and the chickens was well worth the money, and included food we could pack up and take for later in the day. Starting our next day’s walk from here was absolutely beautiful, one of my favourite days on the Camino. I wish I could stay here all over again.

“Idyllic peaceful retreat”
Liked: Casa Alexandre is in a beautiful hillside location, with stunning views, next to a dairy farm, just off the Camino. Alexandre is the most gracious host. He allowed us to do our laundry. He took us to a local restaurant Alta Maria, for dinner (€20 return), which was excellent. You can buy beer (€2 with crisps or nuts), wine, soft drinks. Complimentary water on arrival. There are sun loungers on a terrace and lots of outside furniture to relax on. You can buy breakfast for €14pp. Very clean, including the shared bathroom which had a wonderful powerful shower. I recommend and would stay here again. Thank you for your kindness Alexandre.
Disliked: When we stayed, it was very hot (34 degrees). There was no fan in the room and due to the countryside location, you can only sleep with the window open if you bring earplugs; the neighbourhood dogs are outside barking all night, and Alexandre's rooster wakes up before sunrise. There are only a couple of restaurants in Balugaes and no shops for groceries or supplies. There are no cooking facilities, or kettle/coffee.

“Great facility, very remote location”
Liked: Beautiful property in rural part of town
Disliked: It is far from everything. Restaurant distance is not walkable. Owner will taxi you to a local, very good, restaurant for $20.

“High up and off the beaten path, but lovely stay.”
Liked: Great value, very friendly and helpful owner, big modern bathrooms, free laundry, good breakfast.
Disliked: A very steep 1-mile uphill trek to the property. After a long hot day on the camino, that last uphill mile almost broke me. Also, no a/c.

“Excellent”
Liked: We had a great stay here during our Camino de Santiago journey. Although the property is slightly off the Camino route, it is still conveniently close and well worth the detour. There are no shops or restaurants within walking distance, but the host offers transportation to a nearby restaurant for dinner for an additional fee, which we found very helpful. The breakfast provided on-site was excellent, with plenty of options to choose from. The host was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive. We especially enjoyed chatting with them and felt genuinely well looked after throughout our stay. We would happily recommend this place to other Camino pilgrims looking for a peaceful and comfortable stop.
