Liked: The guy who opened the house for us was very kind and even went out of his way to get some beans and tortillas for us on his bike. THAT IS ABOUT THE ONLY GOOD THING ABOUT THE HOUSE. The pictures are outdated. The house needs a major renovation. The house is spacious and has a lot of potential but the owner clearly has no interest in renovating. There is ONE AC in the entire noise (in the master bedroom) and guess what, IT DOESN’T work. We woke up drenched in sweat. San Juan del sur is a very hot and humid city, so AC is very much needed. There were mice droppings in the master restroom. It was a group of 11 people and we just needed a place to place our things because we weren’t going to sleep much, we got there late around 11 PM and talked to the caretaker who said we could have till 1 PM since we had a late check in but no, they were kicking us out by 11 AM. The cleaning lady was standing there until we left making us feel very uncomfortable, she was rude and even when we greeted her she did not greet back. The cherry on top we were charged for a plastic curtain that was maybe at most $1 and we were charged 400 pesos which is well over $10, ridiculous. I do not recommend this house at ALL.

Liked: What a great place this turned out to be. Super spacious, new and sparkling clean, beautiful view over the water, nicely stocked kitchen. The security guys were nice and the woman there during the day was incredibly kind and helpful. She cooked a delicious breakfast each day (included in the price) and was always available if I needed anything. Best value place I stayed at in Nicaragua.

Liked: Close to main part of town. Not far from the beach.

Disliked: A bit pricey for what it was. The lady didn’t want to serve us breakfast even though breakfast was supposed to be served for another 45 minutes.

Liked: Beautiful home facing the beach. Great for watching sunsets. Attentive security (a bit overbearing to the guests) and wonderful cleaning staff, who explained everything we needed to know.

Disliked: Home sits on top of a hill which was a bit more challenging for the older guests.

Liked: The guard who waited for us, what's incredible with his service. He was super helpful, respectful and made us feel welcomed.

Disliked: The house being an elevated property, you need to go a few steps. Nothing major.

Liked: I stayed at Casa Ruth in San Juan del Sur for one night (Nov 22 – Nov 23). The price was excellent, the location was very convenient, and the overall value exceeded expectations. One of the biggest positives is the amount of space. There’s plenty of room, which makes this a great option for families or larger groups. The amenities were solid, and for the price point, you really get more than expected—definitely good value for the money. There are a couple of minor quirks, and a few things could benefit from updates, but nothing that negatively impacted the stay. Considering the space, location, and affordability, it’s hard to beat. As someone who travels frequently and documents stays under Travel With Glen, I found Casa Ruth to be a practical, budget-friendly choice for travelers who prioritize space and location over luxury. Overall, a very good option for families or groups looking for value in San Juan del Sur.

Disliked: There really isn’t much to point out in terms of negatives. Considering the price, this place offers excellent value. If you’re looking for a luxury-style property, you would need to choose a different accommodation at a higher price point. From a budget-friendly perspective, there were no significant issues worth mentioning. The only possible improvement would be clearer location identification. The property was a little challenging to find at first due to limited signage and the lack of a visible name or number. Once the location was found, however, everything was smooth and there were no further issues.
