Dorsett Wanchai Hong Kong

Was in town for the HK electronics fairs and stayed at Emperor hotel for 5 nights and had a flight cancellation by Delta without notice. Scrambled for a room as Emperor was fully booked. Walked down the street for a fair priced room at Dorset. Have stayed numerous times at their Mongkok and one other location but first time at this Wanchai branch. Rooms are clean and with smells. Breakfast was better than Emperor and suitable for a veg to not go hungry. The rooms are old school and without and usb charge ports or with USA plugs. Requested an adapter to mate my USA plug to HK 220v like we did at Emperor hotel. Emperor loaned us 2 plugs while Dorset stated they are available for sale in their vending machine for only 198 hkd. Really? That is almost $30 usd. Took a brief walk to a nearby phone repair complex and a lady had every permutation of these adapters. Was only 30$ hkd. These are dollar store products and should not be over priced for your customers. Had a miserable time hailing a ride with DiDi. 3 selected and cancelled at 5am. Used their cash machine and their staff hailed me a taxi that was the same fare after I wasted 45 minutes to do it myself. DiDi was a total failure that wanted a prepayment by online methods of which none worked. Catch-22. The pop ups were in Chinese after each failure. Written in a language that only twins will understand. Overall ok with this last minute booking but be prepared to have cash. Only cash rules in over priced HK.

Getting to the hotel from the MTR or Airport Express can be a bit challenging, as there is quite a bit of walking uphill. However, the hotel provides a shuttle bus service with scheduled trips to locations near the MTR and shopping areas, which makes getting around much more convenient. It’s a nice alternative! The breakfast is excellent, with a good variety of delicious food and great value for money. The hotel also offers a welcome drink and some complimentary candies and small treats. The room is not very large, but it is comfortable and not too cramped. There is enough space to open and store luggage, with room to move around. The bathroom is a standard size, and the layout is well designed, with clearly separated functional areas. The lobby is spacious, with plenty of seating. The hotel also offers luggage storage, which is very convenient if you arrive before check-in or need to leave your bags after check-out.

Liked: Great value for money, clean, spacious, excellent beds.

Disliked: Nothing

The room was exceptionally spacious, quiet, and provided a very peaceful stay. The hotel is conveniently located not far from major shopping areas and top tourist attractions. The staff were wonderful—consistently polite, attentive, and genuinely caring throughout our visit. The only downside is the lack of convenience stores or restaurants immediately surrounding the property, so you will need to walk quite a distance to find food or daily essentials.

Disliked: Location was not great but the hotel runs regular shuttle busses to the popular locations.

I booked last minute for my birthday and was pleasantly surprised with a room upgrade and a bottle of wine, despite never having stayed at the hotel before. The staff were extremely friendly and professional and really made my stay.

Good location, clean. Very Basic hotel. Our room windows is facing the cementery tho so a bit scary at night.
