Hotel Kolbeck

Liked: Excellent location close to the Hauptbahnhof, metro and tram stops, with a shopping centre and supermarket nearby. Despite our room overlooking a lively plaza with restaurants and terraces, it was surprisingly quiet both outside and inside the hotel, and we slept very well. The room was spacious and clean, and housekeeping did a very good job throughout our stay. We really appreciated being allowed to check in early after a tiring journey, and the staff accommodating our requests about the beds and bathroom layout. All the staff were friendly and helpful. We also thought the breakfast was very good value for money. Instead of a buffet, they offer an extensive à la carte menu, with a meal, a hot drink, and orange juice included. There are plenty of sweet and savoury options, including pancakes, a yoghurt bowl, porridge, eggs prepared in different ways, avocado toast and various vegetarian and non-vegetarian combinations. A great selection to start the day!

Disliked: A minor point about breakfast: some dishes were a little too rich for my taste, like the extra olive oil on the avocado. This is purely a matter of preference, though, and the staff were happy to accommodate our request to serve the hollandaise sauce separately with the Eggs Benedict. The only other suggestion would be to vacuum the floors a little more frequently, as they sometimes felt a bit dusty during our five-night stay, despite the otherwise great daily cleaning.

Liked: The location is great. It's within 10 minutes of walk from the central station. There are plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. In fact, the ground floor of the hotel is a restaurant. I stayed in a single-bed room, which is quite small, but enough for a quick overnight stay.

Disliked: The desk in the room is very small. There's hardly any space to use my laptop computer.

Liked: We only ordered breakfast once. Food was dry and server was very grumpy

Disliked: Hotel overall is rundown. Staff are grumpy and not friends. The exception was the young student from Serbia( sorry can’t remember name) he was very helpful. Hotel is not central but close to transport. Not located in a nice area. Room was clean however used tea cup was never replaced in the 5 days we were there.

Liked: Great property for a quick trip! Nice breakfast and staff! The bed was clean, there was air conditioning and complimentary water.

Disliked: A little bit difficult with the stairs if you have a lot of luggage
