Hotel Penaga

I stayed with a group of friends and family and I stayed at the 3 bedroom double story house - as in pic. Its a across the street from the main Hotel Penaga reception. I can safely say the 3 bedroom is definitely value for money, it so spacious, with the living hall and kitchen. The bedrooms are very comfortable, and for group coming to Penang for food-hunting, its really a good option. The best part is - great food is just walking distance.. Google up yea..

Hotel Penaga is very well located in the buffer zone of George Town's UNESCO area. Our room (Hutton wing with balcony overlooking courtyard) was wonderful and we really appreciated the stained glass windows and wood furnishings throughout. It is clear that the owners have put a lot of love into restoring what was a set of shophouses. In general the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast is simple but nicely presented. Unfortunately there is one poorly mannered gentleman in the breakfast area who refused to even welcome or seat us until we handed over our breakfast voucher. My one big issue with the hotel is that it only provides one towel per guest and no hand towels. On both nights of our stay, I requested one additional towel and was told that this could not be provided. This seemed to be the one downside for this beautiful 4 star hotel.

stayed for only one night (alone). couldnt sleep until 5am because it just had this negative vibe to it. i wouldnt say haunted but the furnitures and decorations kinda lead to that kinda vibe. had a good sleep nonetheless. bed was comfy, the jacuzzi was working well but the cleanliness of it could be improved. receptionists were helpful and friendly. the breakfast included was also good. i truly love the crossaint. the mee goreng is ok and acceptable. i loved how my room has a balcony attached to it, along with a ceiling fan so i could do my work while enjoying the view and the sounds of penang. i’d suggest staying with atleast a friend/family to be more comfortable. had an issue with my tv where it wouldnt turn on, maintenance came straight away and changed my tv! service is exceptional here. very recommended. lots of shops nearby aswell for travelers!

Location of the hotel is great. The room size is splendid. Will stay again here next time

The hotel room was lovely. It had a very vintage vibe to it. Our transfer suite had a large bedroom with a separate living room. Plenty of storage and sitting surface inside the room. Beautiful colourful glass panels on windows. But I also feel like the descriptions are a little over promising for the price we paid. One of the reason why we booked it was because they claimed they had a pool, but after the Corona outbreak. Their pool became a fish tank with plants. The hotel did not update this information. Even then the pool area was very small. The hotel promoted rooms with jacuzzi but in reality it was just a bathtub with no jacuzzi features. The restroom could also use deep cleaning and maintenance upgrades. The breakfast was decent. The staffs were very cordial and friendly.

Rooms are large and comfortable. Location is excellent. Walking distance of all the good restaurants. Rooms are large, comfortable and clean. But small improvement can be made. My badtub had problems with the water, shower was perfect so no problem and TV remote didn't work.

We stayed here for 4 nights. As a family with young kids, we're particular about the cleanliness. The bed had ash stains or god knows what the black/brown stains are. There were red stains on the wall too - could it be dried blood? The sofa was sticky and all super worn out, with the leather peeling off. The wooden floors were very creaky with some of the wood actually broken off already. The cupboards (both wardrobe and console) were very stinky, I don't think they've been cleaned for a very long time and there was no wardrobe mothballs or freshener in sight. The phone in our room was spoil. The TV in our room was spoil too, couldn't power on the screen at all even though the light showed on. The windows couldn't be opened, stuck shut. The toilet was horrible, the floors were badly stained with once again god knows what brown/black stuff it is. There were ants crawling all over the sink area. The bathtub was stinky too, and the water was constantly filled with brown dirt. We heard loud fireworks right in front of our hotel at 12 midnight onwards? This interrupted all our sleeps and frightened our kids. We were not informed beforehand that the swimming pool was officially closed down. Our kids were disappointed that there wasn't a pool to play in. The breakfast was not only barely decent thing about the stay here.

Helpful/ friendly staff, beautiful colonial/ retro inspired design for the rooms. Only complaint would be bathtub cleanliness and water heater being not as good.
