“Exceptional”

About a 30-minute walk to Wangfujing, 20 minutes to the Forbidden City, right next to Jingshan Park — this is a boutique hotel with a hanok-style atmosphere. The exterior looks like traditional Chinese housing, while the rooms are stylish and thoughtfully prepared. If you tell a taxi the hotel name, it will direct you into an alley; search for Jingshan Park main gate for directions that bring you to the main road. I booked three nights but had to cancel one night and they kindly handled the cancellation — I appreciated that. The staff at check-in are also very friendly. The restaurant is worth trying at least once; breakfast is 50 RMB. Recommended.

“Excellent”

Liked: I LOVED how friendly and accommodating the staff were. A couple of them made my stay really enjoyable. They used an app to translate any communication beyond their English level, so no problem making any request. Also, they were proactive, meaning they noticed my preferences and made suggestions. I really appreciated that. So, excellent from a customer service point.

Disliked: Well, as the name indicates, the set-up is a traditional one. The courtyard is a shared area. I liked sitting there each morning sipping my tea (courtesy of the hotel 🤓.) Guests and staff alike would smoke there. That alone would make me rethink staying there again. In addition, the sound-proofing is non-existent, so if you are sensitive to noise....NB: I personally found many Chinese people to be really loud when speaking, and not too worried about waking someone up at four in the morning.
