Mandara Mount Hotel

Value for money deal. Perfectly located to Ella centre.Balcony view steals the show. Highly recommended

Liked: Beautiful views from the rooms, however, this hotel is still very much a construction site and does not have most of the facilities that are listed

Disliked: Completely unfinished hotel, no restaurant available as was advertised, no air conditioning, no hotel reception. Building site right outside the rooms.

This is a newer hotel situated with the best views of the valley. Our room was very nice with a large bathroom. Breakfast was not included but was very good each morning.

Liked: The mountain view from the rooms is beautiful, and the rooms are spacious. They also offered a complimentary traditional Sri Lankan breakfast (kiribath), which was delicious.

Disliked: The details and pictures shown on Booking.com are completely misleading. There is ongoing construction at the property, with materials scattered everywhere, making it feel more like a construction site than a hotel. These conditions should be clearly updated to avoid unpleasant surprises for guests. The rooms are located 2 to 3 levels below and are accessible only by stairways. During rain, the stairs become wet, slippery, and very dangerous. Some hallways are equipped with sensor lights, but the sensors are not functioning, leaving areas in complete darkness. We had three rooms; one had no proper running water, and another had no working TV channels (PeoTV was not working). When we returned to the property after dinner around 21:30, there was no staff present to address any issues. The reception area was completely dark, and the stairways had no lighting at all. We were a group of six, including two elderly guests, and it was particularly dangerous for them to use the stairs under these conditions. Overall, given the conditions and facilities, this hotel was a very disappointing choice.

Hotel was soo spacious, although the room dont have AC, but just fans, I think it was reasonable since you wont need an AC even during a summer stay like our trip. It was still cold even during the day, fresh air can flow to your hotel room lobby and they had a nice restaurant/cafe with pretty huge servings. We were always full all the time. Staff were also really nice and can pretty much understand/communicate in English.

Liked: The view was amazingly breathtaking. Beautiful Ella rock view from the room. Also the food is excellent. We asked for milk rice for breakfast which was not on the menu but they prepared it for us. It was very nice.

Disliked: Property is under construction and we were not informed about it. There were construction workers. We were the only guests (2 pax) kind of uncomfortable. Reception could have done better with service.

What I love: - Beautiful view of Ella Rock directly from the room. I had great view and photographs of Ella Rock at sunrise, daytime, sunset and even late at night for a starry sky. - Room is spacious. - Location is decent - it’s not right smack in town but it’s a walkable 300-400m to town. Given how hilly Ella can be, the path is only slightly elevated, which is manageable. - Price is decent - Ella is overall more expensive, so for the view I’m getting, I’m happy with the price. What I don’t fancy: - Shower! The water isn’t hot and at best warm. I’m a solo traveller so if you’re a couple that both needs a shower, water may run cold. - Surrounding renovation works - there will be noises during daytime, but since I was out it didn’t bother me. At night it’s fine and I had a good rest. - One has to take stairs to get to the room and it can get dark at night, tho there are sensor lights. Overall, you get what you pay for. This place is great if you want the view!
