“Really Good!”
This is a very conveniently located hotel that wonderfully represents the Mercure brand in the city centre, right next to Kyoto Main Station and the Nidec Tower. The staff was beyond polite and helpful. The decor is wild in the best sense of the word: imagine soft cyberpunk meeting a Japanese take on the western film genre. The room we had (Privilege Room with Two Single Beds and a Bath Tub) was rather spacious with decent furniture, incredibly comfortable mattresses, nice bathroom, and all the amenities you might need. The hotel is also definitely a great choice for those who arrive to Kyoto late on the train as you can reach it in less than 10 minutes on foot. I recommend it!

Liked: It was a clean location
Disliked: When I was forwarding my luggage to the next hotel, the front desk manager called the other hotel to inform them that we had multiple pieces of luggage. I’m not sure what the purpose of that call was, especially since we had paid for two rooms at this location. Because of that call, the next hotel began questioning us about how many people would be staying there. I told them that we could discuss that directly when we arrived. I found the situation unnecessary and uncomfortable, and I’m still unclear as to why the front desk manager felt the need to contact the other hotel about our luggage in the first place.

“Above average”
Liked: The front desk staff were very helpful. The housekeeping service was excellent. The hotel is very close to the station, and the location is very convenient overall.
Disliked: the staff working in the restaurant and kitchen were quite unfriendly and rarely smiled. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy the food, and there was not even any cheese available.

“Reasonable pricing with ideal location.”
The room is decent and spacey. All necessities are provided and the location is very good. The only thing which may not fit most people’s taste is the size of hairbrush and toothbrush. They are wooden and quite small. This can be a problem for people who are not used to such items.
