Oakwood PIK Jakarta

Although on first appearance this looks like a five star hotel, the apartments are far from five star. The AC didn’t work well (yes, maintenance checked it but we saw many other units being checked too), so it was a hot night of sleep. The setup is a bit strange in that it’s a hotel and residence. You don’t get pool towels so you have to bring the ones from your room and the breakfasy buffet food was less than optimal. The kids playroom had no toys (only large climbing plastic structure) which appears mostly used by local residents. They advertise a kids pool, but you can’t access it because it’s for residents only. Lastly, they have a family mart bellow, but you can only pay with cash. The plus: staff responded to our requests timely, they tried their best. The pool is gorgeous and huge. Location: half hour drive to Dunfai and very close to explore walk away near the pier, which has highly recommend. Lots to eat and you can rent many types of vehicles to explore the area.

Our expectations of the international Oakwood hotel chain turned out to be misplaced. It’s basically the same as a typical serviced apartment — facilities are limited to what an apartment provides. Breakfast felt like a mall staff canteen, with basic food and a very small dining area, even though many guests are international. Meanwhile, the room cleanliness was fine and the location is superb, right across the PIK morning market that sells a wide variety of food.

The hotel's location is strategic, surrounded by many interesting dining options, but unfortunately the breakfast is only average—I was hoping for more menu choices and a variety of snacks like other 5-star hotels. When swimming, hotel guests cannot get towels that should be provided, so you have to bring your own from the room. There are two keys: one for hotel access and one for the shared facilities with apartment residents. The hotel key for pool access is only valid for one person; you have to borrow another card from the receptionist if another family member wants to use the facility. As for the room, it was exactly what I hoped for because of the complete facilities, including a kitchen with cookware and a washing machine.

The unit was 2 bedrooms with 2 bathrooms. It was very spacious for 3 of us. Unit was very clean. It came with all the amenities including drinking water dispenser, electric kettle and Nespresso machine. The only little drawback was sewer like smell coming from the 2nd bathroom in the morning. It did not really bother us. We will stay there again.

We stayed for 1 night to attend an event nearby. One of the room we stayed had hot AC, we report it to the staff and had technician check the AC. Since we need to attend the event we let the technician work while we were away. When we got back near midnight, the AC was still hot, they just set it on the coldest highest fan setting, but the room was nowhere on being cool. But no one message or update us with the condition. Nor offer us to change room or upgrade. When I had to leave in the morning I report this to the front desk, they just said they could only give extra late check out till 1 pm (which we dont need) on the other room. No compensation. If its not of these unfortunate condition I think the room was okay, with pretty complete amenities. But yeah, in Jakarta hot AC is such a turn off.
