“Concert”

Stayed one night in Taipei for a concert. From the parking lot to the lobby to the room, everything was clean, bright, spacious, and comfortable. The furniture in the room was simple and lightweight, and the many mirrors made the layout feel even more open. Surprisingly, the double bed’s firmness was very comfortable. Convenient location with Ubike and a convenience store right downstairs, and the staff were very friendly. The downsides were that soundproofing was really poor — you could clearly hear neighboring guests opening and closing their doors; water leaked out through the shower door gap while showering (not enough to flood the bathroom but the bath mat got completely soaked); and the floor’s common water dispenser couldn’t produce hot or warm water, only cold water (and it didn’t taste very cold).

“Accommodation feedback”

I originally booked because of the gym, but I was really disappointed to find out there wasn’t one. Still, the staff were so friendly that it didn’t feel like a big deal. However, the bedding had a lot of lint, which irritated my nose — I sneezed and had a runny nose the whole time. The lights were also intermittent, and the soundproofing was poor — I could hear other people being loud. There was a strong bleach smell from the towels.

“A decent experience that can be better.”

When I checked in there weren’t enough staff and the newcomers were inexperienced, which led to a queue and wait time of over half an hour. That’s rare at a hotel that emphasizes service. The on-site supervisor and staff lacked the ability to respond effectively — they kept apologizing verbally but there was no improvement in their actions or handling. That was a disappointing shortcoming. I also heard other guests during check-in say they only discovered their rooms hadn’t been cleaned after they arrived, which suggests staffing may be insufficient on holidays and there was no advance coordination or preparation. Management needs to improve. The room was clean and tidy, quite comfortable, and the location is excellent — very close to Songshan Airport — which are other positives. Overall, if they strengthen staff training, crisis handling, and basic scheduling, OOD Hotel Taipei Dunhua North would be a hotel worth revisiting and paying more attention to.

“I was unexpectedly notified that accommodation cannot be provided.”

My first time ever giving a hotel one star. A month ago I purposely booked OOD Hotel Taipei Dunhua North near Taipei Arena so I could walk to a concert with a friend. On the day of check-in at 14:37 they emailed saying “equipment malfunction that cannot be fixed during your stay,” and offered either a transfer to another property in the group or a “full refund.” We were already near the hotel, so we went to the front desk immediately. A supervisor in a black uniform said the room’s air conditioning was broken and that transfers had to be arranged through the “reservation center.” They finally offered us “Queker Hotel Neihu.” I told them we booked this hotel specifically because it’s within walking distance of Taipei Arena, but the supervisor said even the presidential suite had been reserved and our only options were a transfer or a refund. When we found out we were being sent to a Neihu branch 6 kilometers away, nobody offered any apology or comfort. I said you should at least cover the taxi fare—our time spent traveling back and forth is more valuable than money. We were rushing to have dinner with my friend and get to the venue, so we went to the assigned “Queker Hotel Neihu.” The front desk staff were cold and asked if we had a reference number. I said the other hotel’s supervisor told us to just give our names; only then did they check us in. When we entered the room my friend and I were stunned—the room was outdated, dimly lit, and far below the standard of the hotel we had originally booked. We went straight back downstairs to check out, but the front desk said, “You have to wait for the reservation center to handle it,” so we called customer service to complain. After a round of calls, they finally moved us to another hotel, “Queker Hidden Residence Neihu.” We told customer service we wanted to see the room first before deciding, and the desk attendant on duty there was very proactive. She immediately reassured us and brought us up to see two rooms. After we confirmed everything was okay, she contacted the reservation center to finalize it. I want to point out: everything had to be confirmed by the “reservation center” before any crisis response could be made. What kind of robotic indifference is that in the hospitality industry? Next, OOD Hotel’s on-site front desk crisis handling deserves criticism. Whether it was overbooking or a real AC failure, the front-line staff’s reaction alone was infuriating. What does “full refund” even mean? The hotel notified us just over an hour before check-in with no ability to accommodate us, and we were expected to bear the travel time cost ourselves. They didn’t proactively try to secure us a comparable room; instead they shoved us into a lower-tier property to brush us off and even asked us on the spot, “So how would you like to handle this?” Is that how a front desk supervisor should behave? Especially one wearing a black uniform who seemed to be a senior manager—I was speechless. What travelers value most is the overall travel experience. If the Queker group cannot prioritize service or handle contingencies properly, this will be my first and last stay with any hotel in your group.
