ORIENTAL HOTEL KYOTO ROKUJO

I wanted to love this hotel and give it a full recommendation, but there were some drawbacks, as I did not find the staff/policies very accommodating. The room was not set up (with beds together) as we'd been asked to specify in the booking, and the solution could only be to change it the next day. I then didn't sleep because the TV kept turning on every 10 minutes to welcome me to the hotel, even though staff confirmed I was using the obvious OFF button correctly (eventually had to disconnect it). There was no milk alternative at breakfast, which I can understand, but I was not allowed to bring my own soy milk into breakfast to accommodate my allergy. All that said, the hotel is very pleasant and I was excited to try all the local specialities in the breakfast buffet - delicious! Location is reasonable but not really walkable even from the Nishiki Market area where you're likely to end up, so expect to be catching buses. Would I stay here again? Yes. But I'd like to know this information for a smoother experience.

Every time I passed in front of the front desk, the staff always greeted me, so I was able to head out and enjoy exploring Kyoto feeling good. This time I visited places like Nishi Hongan-ji, Shimabara, and the Mibu area, and because they were easy to get to from the hotel I made really great memories. Thank you very much.

The lobby looks modern and welcoming, but unfortunately, our room was quite disappointing. The room felt outdated and wasn’t as clean as we expected. We were also allocated a room on Level 1 overlooking a fence and a rather neglected area, which made us feel like we had been given one of the least desirable rooms in the hotel. The amenities were okay, but overall, the room didn’t match the impression created by the modern lobby. The location is quiet, which is nice, but we found it difficult to find restaurants, shops, and other conveniences within walking distance. Overall, the hotel has potential, but our room and its location within the hotel really affected our experience.

Liked: The location is great, staff are super helpful. It’s clean and the beds are comfortable.

Disliked: Nothing

Liked: There were drinks available in the lobby like tea, coffee and juice. The staff were friendly and professional. Ms Morioka was stand out in helpfulness and explanation for questions- really appreciated

Disliked: Would not affect all, but having a celiac child, having basic things on the buffet menu like eggs, nori and tofu which are often gluten free be gluten free would be appreciated. When asked could eggs be made they said they weren’t able to accommodate (often hotels will make scrambled or fried) Also perhaps mark freely.available alcohol as alcohol so kids don’t think it’s something else.

I stayed at the Oriental Hotel in the USJ area in the past, and the Kyoto location leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to customer service.

Liked: Loved the location. That Disney was a short free bus ride away and it went really regularly. Straight across from a train station. Lawsons on site. I liked the welcome free lollies and fairy floss. The amenities store. And the buffet breakfast was actually had so many options and had signs with dietary requirements.

Disliked: To have the buffet at night it was over $100 for 1 adult and child and the price for the buffet changes nightly.
