Royal Rio Palace Hotel

Arrived early on an overnight coach into Rio and went to hotel reception The desk manager looked at us with no acknowledgement or greeting We explained our position and asked could we leave our bags 30 reais was the only response We then asked knowing check-in was 2pm would there be any possibility of checking in any earlier 400 Reais was the only response No hello no welcome This hotel is in the hospitality industry The clue is in the word The most unwelcoming I have ever had at a hotel All they want is money Stay somewhere else

Liked: the Breakfast and the people cleaning up and bringing dishes every second of that morning is EXCEPTIONAL. The Breakfast staff were accommodating and seemed very professional.

Disliked: The cleaning staff are not good in all of the BRAZIL stays we have stayed at. I witnessed the cleaning staff in our room, use the toilet brush in the toilet, then placed that same unwashed brush into the sink where you wash your face and hands. That is DISGUSTING. She could have rinsed the brush in the toilet after flushing for clean water. They really have no common sense. They are nice people, but fail on actual hygiene etiquette. They are honest people, never an item misplaced or re arranged. I did not want them to change my sheets because due to the hotel being STINGY with cleaning gloves, they use the exact gloves to change the sheets, pillow cases. 2. The kitchen refused to heat up pizza from Dominos for us. They said the food had to have been purchased from their hotel. The rooms have no microwave. 3. The guy at the pool bar is extremely ignorant. He only pays attention to you if you purchase drinks and food from him. He is not nice. he never has a smile on his face. I guess he is not paid for smiling. 4. The front staff discriminated against us. Very few people are asking for beach towels and very few are documented on that clipboard. We were embarrassed when the front staff made a big deal out of it. We don't fit their colour, so its a shame that that is the service level received. Brazil should appreciate our clientele, but they have their own bias against coloured people. Disgusting.

Liked: Its my second time at the royal rio hotel and it never disappoints great over all only problem is you can here alot of noise from other rooms i guess the walls are quite thin but apart from that great service

They charge for storing your luggage. Phone in rooms not working, you have to go to reception if you want something. Rooms dirty, I couldn't even walk barefoot. My room was spacious though. The man at front/reception was not polite, he seems to be treating white guests nice only. He had an attitude towards me. When I can back at 3pm to check in, I forgot the other guy's number he's black he was so nice to me.

A really enjoyable stay with excellent value for money. the location was a major highlight being seconds away from the beach. The property was clean and staff were helpful when needed. The facilities were incredible. Transport was quick and accessible when needed making this a comfortable, well rounded choice that that is easy to recommend. Would happily stay here again.

Liked: The property was excellent and just as described. The location was perfect and the host Andrea was great and very efficient. I would recommend staying at this property.
