“An unforgettable stay near the Knuckles Mountains”
Liked: Absolutely fantastic stay. We were looking for a peaceful base near the Knuckles Mountains away from the hustle and bustle of central Kandy, and this hotel completely delivered. The setting is breathtaking—sweeping views of the mountains and surrounding tea plantations, plus a stunning infinity pool that makes the absolute most of the scenery. What truly made our stay exceptional, though, was the staff. Every single person we met was genuinely warm, welcoming, and attentive. The owner should be immensely proud of this team. A special shout-out to the restaurant staff, who went above and beyond for us—including waking up early to prepare breakfast before our early morning tour. Their hospitality throughout our stay was faultless. Another highlight is that the hotel has its own resident naturalist, Isuru. We booked a full-day tour into the Knuckles Range with him, and it was incredible. He guided us on a fantastic 12km hike, thoughtfully pacing the walk and planning regular breaks to accommodate my bad knee. Isuru’s passion for his work and the natural environment is infectious—spending the day learning from him was an absolute joy, and we’re so grateful for his care and expertise. We couldn't recommend this place highly enough and would love to return!
Disliked: Everything was great

“A very pleasant and enjoyable stay in a peaceful boutique hotel outside Kandy with courteous staff”
Liked: The staff were exceptional. They were obliging abd helpful We tried the ayurvedhic treatments - Thakshila was extremely good: courteous and helpful Driver accommodation was also good
Disliked: 1. There should be more information on activities (like the nature trail) and also more options for activities in Kandy 2. There should be more information on ayurvedhic treatments in the room so guests can decide in advance and make a plan. Access to an ayurvedhic doctor in the area designated for ayurvedic treatments and spas could be more well organised. 3. The property should have more information about the history of the plantation and Edward Simpson - including a little museum and visit to original house with a guide

“Amazing landscape!!”
Liked: This place is a paradise in the middle of the forest. If you want to relax and enjoy life in the wild with all the comforts of a luxury resort, this is the place for you. The atmosphere is amazing, and the rooms are spacious, spotless and have incredible views.
Disliked: The only drawback is that the staff, while very kind, were sometimes not very precise. At dinner, we asked for a non-spicy dish and were told this was possible, but when it arrived it was far too spicy for our European palates. The schedule also felt a bit restrictive. Closing the bar at 11 pm in such a remote location is a shame, as there is no alternative for guests who would like to enjoy a drink and the setting a little longer.

“A magical place in the heart of nature!”
Liked: We stayed at this beautiful and magical place for almost a week, and I feel so lucky, as I think we must have found the best hotel in all of Sri Lanka. The setting is perfect. We were there for the start of the monsoon season, and in the evening sat out on our patio to watch fireflies and the flicker of distant lightning over the mountains. Everything was clean and well maintained, and the staff looked after us so well. Thank you, Imakla, Ovindi, and Chandana for taking such good care of us, and Chef Janaka for your beautiful presentation, accommodating our requests and working authentic Sri Lankan flavours into every meal. If you visit, definitely take the time to walk the estate with Isuru, the resident naturalist: Sri Lanka is full of birds, plants, butterflies and lizards found nowhere else in the world, and Isuru’s sharp eyes, huge breadth of knowledge and massive joy in all of nature will make your visit truly memorable. We will definitely be back!
Disliked: A vent in bathroom and more places to hang clothes in the room/cupboard would surely be helpful.

“The place from my dreams”
Liked: This was one of the most amazing hotels I have ever stayed at! The views are absolutely stunning, the property is beautiful and spacious, and the whole place has a very peaceful atmosphere. Every detail feels carefully considered, and the overall quality is very high. The rooms are very well equipped, exceptionally clean, and offer incredible views. The swimming pool has a breathtaking view of the mountains and a truly unique sense of privacy. The staff were extremely attentive, warm, and always ready to help with anything we needed. There was a genuine feeling of care throughout our stay. Especially want to thank Isuru for interesting morning walk and friendly atmosphere during our whole stay. Mind that it is located 40minutes by car/tuk from Kandy, for us it was perfect. I recommend to stay several nights
Disliked: The price of dining is high but the quality was overall good (except coffee)

“Lovely stay, great staff and great food”
Liked: We really enjoyed our 5 night stay at Simpsons. As nice as the hotel is and for as good as the food is, the real highlight is just how good the staff are there, always smiling, friendly and always willing to help. To name but a few, Dileema, Hansi, Isurue, Gune and all of the restaurant staff, Imalka, Disna, Chandana, Sadun, Waruna and Ovindi. Thank you all for making our stay so memorable.
