The Local Riverside

I was fortunate to choose this place because I badly injured my back during the travel. The staff was excellent. It’s a very cool family owned guesthouse. They have a restaurant with a small bar on the ground floor with excellent homemade food, a very large menu with all kinds of dishes and good prices. Also indoor and outdoor seating. The owner, Yat, was very attentive because I was barely able to walk most of the time and rarely came out of the room. He would often message me to check if I was okay or needed anything delivered to the room. Great service, compassion, and kindness. Only one thing to beware of for some guests, especially elderly or those carrying a lot of luggage- there is no elevator and the stairs are compact and spitarling. Kind of difficult to navigate. With my back injury, that was tough, but upon check in, the young man on duty happily offered to carry my heavy bag and guided me safely to the room. Outstanding hospitality! Thank you to Yat and his family and the helpful young men working there. I’ll stay again next time!

Liked: Hot shower, fridge in room, and confortable bed. Lighting was excellent, roomy shower, and plenty of electrical outlets. They also had good food at good prices. Will return on my next visit. Good location.

Disliked: The bed is extremely uncomfortable, the shower head was very clogged with hardwater, only a sheet on the bed instead of a blanket (I get that it's very hot outside but the AC works REAL well), older building and room

I was able to check in within 10 minutes of making the reservation. The hotel I had initially secured nearby was not in operation, so I quickly made a reservation through Agoda. They promptly showed me to my room, and I felt assured that they were always ready to assist. I stayed in a room with a balcony. Although I couldn't fill the bathtub with water, it was easy to use the bathroom facilities since they were separate from the toilet. The first floor has a restaurant, the second floor has the kitchen, and the third floor is the accommodation area. Since the night market and downtown are close by, the locking system at night is very secure, and if you need to leave early in the morning, you have to ask them to unlock the door, but the security system is reliable and safe. I appreciate the quick arrangement.

Liked: The place is very well located and staff are exceptionally friendly. The bar is great (and cheap) too. Gives very nice "homy" vibes.

Disliked: The manager, a westerner around 30's was always drunk, weeded up, and screwed up to the top, but kind when lucid.

Liked: Very much an old-school backpacker place. Don’t expect much in terms of facilities, just appreciate a clean space in a great location, with friendly helpful staff. I loved hanging out at the attached bar & being able to meet so many expats, all with amazing stories to tell.

Disliked: A/C could be a bit stronger

I’ve stayed at Local Riverside Phnom Penh twice now and honestly love this place. The first time I stayed in the dorm room – super spacious with big, comfy beds, and the shared bathroom was really clean. The second time I booked a balcony room but got upgraded to the Penthouse – huge room with a massive rooftop balcony and comfy sofas. Such a great surprise! The staff are all super friendly and helpful, and the owner is just the nicest guy who’ll help you with anything you need. They’ve also got a bar and restaurant downstairs – definitely try the mojitos and BBQ, both were amazing! Overall, it’s a super chill spot with great vibes, awesome service, and a perfect location by the river. Would absolutely stay here again.
