Great Hotel but You Pay Lots of Stinky Chicago Junk Taxes. Chicago established a 1.5% Tourism Improvement District charge. Plus State of Illinois Hotel Operators' Tax 6.00%, Cook County Hotel Tax 1.00%, City of Chicago Home Rule Hotel Tax 4.50%, Chicago Municipal Hotel Tax 1.00%, Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (McCormick Place) 2.50%, Illinois Sports Facilities Authority 2.14%. The effective rate is 18.9% instead of 18.5% because some of the taxes are taxes on taxes. Mercifully, Trump does not charge a Resort Fee. I got a much better price booking through Agoda than direct. The staff, pool, and restaurant were fantastic.
