Vakkaru Maldives

After visiting Vakkaru Maldives last year I couldn't stop thinking about it. Going to other islands afterward, I found their quality and the lagoons far inferior to Vakkaru. Looking back, the five days at Vakkaru were simply perfect—except the bathtub wasn't cleaned properly! The food all suited my taste. The sea was very rough on the boat trips, so the outings weren't a great experience.

Disliked: We definitely did not get our money's worth at this hotel. We had previously stayed in the Maldives at half the price and received a far superior experience — you can genuinely find much better for less. The biggest issue here is management. While neighboring resorts are running at full capacity, this hotel remains remarkably empty — and it is no coincidence. Guests notice the difference. In our opinion, the current manager lacks the skills and experience needed to run this property properly. With a more capable and guest-focused manager, this place could be so much better. We were on a full board package, yet certain items on the menu came with an extra charge. Rather than paying additionally, we had to order alternative dishes at the same restaurant. This is simply unacceptable for a full board arrangement and was never clearly communicated to us beforehand. To the Egyptian owners of this property: please take this feedback seriously. The resort has potential, but that potential is being wasted without the right leadership in place.

Liked: Just everything, the staff, location, room, restaurants, food, amenities etc. Just wonderful n classy

Disliked: Too pricey

Disliked: Our experience at this resort was extremely disappointing. There were cockroaches everywhere, all around the villa and common areas. The staff was friendly, but unfortunately that was one of the very few positive things. The entire place felt dirty and poorly maintained, and the food was mediocre at best. Everything is outrageously overpriced. A simple shared dish can cost around $100, and even a small bottle of water is $15. On top of that, they charge thousands of dollars extra for transportation, without clearly informing you in advance. We ended up paying an additional $2,000–$3,000 just for transfers. The meal plan is also extremely misleading. It is very restrictive, and almost anything outside the very limited included options comes with massive extra charges. No matter what you order, you constantly feel like another $500 is being added to your bill. Then they add extra “taxes” and hidden fees that are not explained properly, making it impossible to understand what you are actually paying for. Overall, the resort feels like a complete scam. You can easily spend $2,000 per day for four people just to eat basic meals. Even simple activities are absurdly overpriced. A regular group snorkeling trip, not even a private one, can cost close to $1,000 for about an hour. Beautiful photos online, but the reality is nowhere near the luxury experience they advertise.

Liked: Everything is wonderful. Our butler Mira always helps us promptly and allows us to enjoy this journey to the fullest. The housekeeper is also kind and helpful, bringing me a band-aid quickly, and always keeping the room tidy and lovely. The artist from Coconut Club is also kind and passionate, we enjoyed the handcrafting so much. For Merana, we enjoyed the couple’s escape massage and it was extraordinary, possibly the best massage I’ve ever had. For Splash, we enjoyed the scuba diving and snorkeling so much, the marine life in Baa atoll is stunning; the coaches and crew are also kind and helpful, and this experience would be another reason for us to come back to Vakkaru. We also enjoyed the tree house destination dining, the lobster menu was awesome and the atmosphere was memorable. I’m very glad I chose a destination dining experience during the stay. We would definitely be willing to come back to Vakkaru. This is an experience I wish to have more than just once.
