Van der Valk Hotel Schiphol

The hotel room are great with massage bathtub, and there is free shuttle bus to the airport every hour. Gym and the bar are great

Liked: Our flight Amsterdam was cancelled and flight moved ahead a day. I picked the Valk because they had good rating and free shuttle to and from the airport. Wow is all I can say what beautiful hotel. The food service was amazing. The walking path was really nicy

Disliked: Nothing

Staff was welcoming and helpful. Room was well appointed with a spacious and comfortable balcony overlooking a green pasture. For my trip, the most helpful was using the free airport shuttle back and forth to Schiphol where I then took the train into Amsterdam. Very convenient. I considered booking a hotel in Amsterdam but did not want to lug my suitcase on the train. I did not have any meals there, so cannot comment on that, but the other facilities were great. So happy to have found this property.

Liked: Breakfast is well organised and easy to help yourself. The hotel is well situated - I need to bring my car for a service once a year and the location is very convenient.

Disliked: It is a big hotel with many people moving through it - staff does not have the time to stop and talk with clients, mostly people in transit, not really interested in friendly exchanges in any case. All a bit clinical; hello, pay and goodbye... That is fine with me; we are only there for a car... Beds are awful - strange little mattress that moves all over the base.

Liked: The location was good if staying overnight by the airport. The airport shuttle was convenient.

Disliked: I liked everything because I only stayed one night. If longer then it might be inconvenient to go back and forth to downtown, but the hotel itself is wonderful. I had dinner at the on-site restaurant and I had a good meal there. The staff were very friendly.

Upon check-in around 3:30pm, the staff offer me a 35-euro per night to upgrade to a bigger room with bubble tub. I paid for the upgrade for my stay (two nights). Later after dinner I came back to the room to realise that the fridge was not working. And facial tissue box is empty. I called the front desk to be told that there is no technician until tomorrow. I also have to come down to front desk for extra towels and pay for the tissue that was not prepared in the room. I came down and report the issue to manager they offer to waive the 35 euro upgrade on the first night. The second day they fix the fridge. But house keeping didn't service our room. They argue that may be I put do not disturb sign on. I said I told the front before I left the hotel to fix the fridge and do housekeeping. If I have put do not disturb on, why would the fridge have been fixed but not housekeeping? On the check-out date, I checked out at 12pm they said the hotel check-out time is at 11am. So extra hour is chargeable at 10euro. It was written on key card envelop I didn't notice and was not told at check-in too. So this is the kind of experience you can expect to have at this hotel.

Liked: Very clean, decoration was top quality, professional gym (actually managed to practice) and the breakfast was amazing

Disliked: Everything was good

Happy that there is no airplane noise disturbance. Happy with the airport shuttle for easy transfer.
