Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1Edinburgh to Inverness
Midhope Castle
Near Abercorn, South Queensferry, EH30 9SL, United Kingdom
This is Lallybroch. Unmissable for every Outlander fan Jamies home was once the house of Alexander Drummond. Now a ruin the interior of this house now has a limited part of the interior accesible to visit.
Drummond Gardens
Crieff, PH7 4HN, United Kingdom
Open from the 1st May until 31st October this incredible formal garden features as the gardens of Versailles in Outlander. Drummond Gardens has all the characteristics of a courtly, 17th century Scottish Renaissance garden. It is a composite garden, restructured in early Victorian times and renewed again in the 20th century when the garden framework and the exceptional interest of the original 19th century design were carefully preserved.
Falkland
Falkland, United Kingdom
Old inverness in the show this ancient village boasts King James IV’s pride and joy, Falkland Palace built in 1500. The palace can be visited if interested, but no doubt you will be interested in the famous fountain where Jamies ghost appears and the shop where Claire sees the blue vase.
Cairngorms National Park
Scottish Highlands, PH22 1QH, United Kingdom
The stunning sites of this vast plateau of mountains grace our trip to Inverness, with plenty of stops on offer or a straight run to the city.
Inverness
Inverness, United Kingdom
The capital of the highlands and a bustling modern city, Inverness will be your home for the next 2 days and the restaurant and nightlife scene here will not disappoint.
Day 2Around Inverness
Clava Cairns
Balnuaran of Clava, Scottish Highlands, IV2 5EU, United Kingdom
The 4000 year history of this atmospheric site will amaze you, and it certainly had a big impact on Diana Gabaldon, listing this place as one of the key inspirations for the story.
Culloden Battlefield
Culloden Battlefield Visitor Centre, Culloden Moor, IV2 5EU, United Kingdom
The eerie site of the last battle on British mainland soil, the Drumossie moor by the village of Culloden, with its 19th century memorials and absolutely unmissable museum.
Culloden
Culloden, United Kingdom
Passing through the village we go to look at the Culloden House Hotel, once home of Duncan Forbes the lord of Culloden, and used as both Jacobite and Government HQs before and after the battle. Used in the TV show as exactly that, Bonnie Prince Charlies headquarters.
A drive through Inverness and north takes us to this amazing peninsula on the Moray Firth. Linked to the Bran Seer who predicted Culloden, and in the shadow of Fort George built in the aftermath, this is a beautiful place where dolphins can be spotted.

Often described as the most beautiful glen in Scotland, Glen Affric contains the third largest area of ancient Caledonian pinewoods in the country.
Glenfinnan Viaduct
Glenfinnan Lodge A830 Rd, Glenfinnan, PH37 4LT, United Kingdom
The imposing Viaduct stands overlooking the majestic Loch Shiel with the Highlander monument marking the area that the standard was raised on August 19th 1745. Rumours popular movies being filmed here in the past remain unconfirmed!
Fort William
Fort William, United Kingdom
Perhaps not exactly what you are expecting, for example there is no longer a fort in this seaside town. For your overnight stay here, we recommend booking a Guest House or Bed and Breakfast over a hotel. There are plenty options for your evening’s entertainment in this busy little town.
