About Goa

Goa is India’s smallest state and its best-known beach destination, a strip of palm-lined coast on the Arabian Sea. Four and a half centuries of Portuguese rule left whitewashed churches, pastel-coloured Latin quarters in Panaji and a distinctive food culture built on seafood, coconut and spice.

North Goa — Calangute, Baga, Anjuna and Vagator — is busier, with nightlife, markets and water sports. South Goa, around Colva, Benaulim and Palolem, is quieter, with longer beaches and more resort hotels. The churches and convents of Old Goa are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
