Best time to visit AlUla
October to March is the main season, with warm days and cold desert nights — ideal for outdoor sites and stargazing. Several cultural festivals take place in the winter months. Summers are very hot, and some tours run on reduced schedules.
Getting around AlUla
Sites are spread over a wide area, so most visitors use hotel transfers, taxis, a hire car or the official tour buses. Hegra, Dadan and Jabal Ikmah are visited on ticketed, time-slotted tours booked in advance.
AlUla travel tips
- Book Hegra tours before you travel — entry is only on scheduled tours, and winter weekends sell out.
- Go to Elephant Rock in the late afternoon: the rock glows at sunset and the lounge area is lit after dark.
- Pack warm layers from November to February; desert nights can drop close to freezing even after warm days.
- AlUla is remote, so allow at least two to three full days to see Hegra, Dadan, Jabal Ikmah and the old town without rushing.
