Abu Dhabi Itinerary: 1, 2 and 3 Days
Abu Dhabi’s sights sit on separate islands linked by fast roads but no metro, so a good plan groups them by area. These itineraries work for a stay in the city or a day trip from Dubai.
Before you plan
Getting around
There is no metro: taxis and ride-hailing are the easiest option, and public buses use the Hafilat card.
Grand Mosque booking
Book a free entry slot online and dress modestly: long sleeves and trousers or a long skirt, and a headscarf for women.
Where to stay
The Corniche for the city, Saadiyat for culture and beaches, Yas Island for the theme parks.
Hotels in Abu Dhabi by area
Abu Dhabi in 1 day (or a day trip from Dubai)
Morning — Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
Arrive early for softer light and fewer visitors.
Midday — Louvre Abu Dhabi
Drive to Saadiyat Island for the galleries and lunch at the museum.
Late afternoon — Qasr Al Watan
Tour the presidential palace, staying for the evening light show if it is running.
Evening — The Corniche
Walk the waterfront before heading back; Dubai is about 90 minutes away by road.
Abu Dhabi in 2 days
Follow the one-day plan, then add:
Day 2 — Yas Island
Pick one park — Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World, Yas Waterworld or SeaWorld — and finish at Yas Marina, where the Formula 1 circuit wraps around the harbour.
Abu Dhabi in 3 days
For a third day, choose one:
Old Abu Dhabi and the mangroves
Qasr Al Hosn in the morning, mangrove kayaking in the afternoon and Heritage Village at sunset.
Desert safari
A relaxed morning at Saadiyat Beach, then an afternoon pickup for dune driving and a desert camp dinner.
Al Ain day trip
The UNESCO-listed oases and Jebel Hafeet mountain road, about 90 minutes inland.
Getting between the islands
The main sights are typically 20–40 minutes apart by road. The Grand Mosque sits on the mainland between the city and the airport, so it pairs naturally with an arrival or departure day, or with Yas Island. Saadiyat Island (the Louvre) is a short drive from the Corniche, and Qasr Al Watan is at the western end of the main island next to Emirates Palace.
Taxis are metered and widely available, and ride-hailing works across the city. If you are coming from Dubai for the day, a tour with hotel pickup or a private driver avoids two long drives behind the wheel.
Visiting in summer
From June to September, move the Grand Mosque to the first slot of the morning, spend the hottest hours at the Louvre, Qasr Al Watan or the indoor parks on Yas Island, and leave the Corniche and the beach for the evening.
Abu Dhabi with kids
Base yourselves on Yas Island and spread the parks over two or three days, mixing in beach time at a resort. The Grand Mosque visit is short and memorable for children, and SeaWorld and Warner Bros. World are indoors — useful in summer.
