Dubai Itinerary: 3, 5 and 7 Days
These plans group sights by area to cut down on travel time, keep the hottest hours for indoor stops, and leave room for one desert evening. Start with three days and add the extra days if you have them.
Before you plan
Pick a base on the Metro
Downtown, Business Bay or Al Barsha make every day below easy. See our guide to where to stay.
Where to stay in DubaiBook timed tickets ahead
Burj Khalifa’s observation decks and the Museum of the Future sell timed entry, and sunset slots go first.
Plan around the heat
From May to September, do outdoor sights early or after sunset and keep midday for museums, malls and the aquarium.
Friday timing
Some mosques and heritage sites change visiting times around Friday midday prayers, so check before you go.
Dubai in 3 days
Day 1 — Downtown Dubai
Morning at the Museum of the Future or the Dubai Frame, afternoon inside The Dubai Mall and the Dubai Aquarium, then Burj Khalifa’s observation deck around sunset and the Dubai Fountain show from the lake promenade.
Day 2 — Old Dubai and the Creek
Walk Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood in Bur Dubai, cross Dubai Creek by abra, and explore the Spice and Gold Souks in Deira. Return for a late-afternoon rest, then take a dhow dinner cruise on the Creek or in the Marina.
Day 3 — Desert safari
Keep the morning easy by the pool or at the beach. Evening desert safaris usually collect you in the afternoon for dune driving, sunset in the dunes and dinner at a desert camp.

Dubai in 5 days
Follow the three-day plan, then add:
Day 4 — Beaches and the Palm
Morning at Kite Beach or JBR beach, a look at the Burj Al Arab from Umm Suqeim, then Palm Jumeirah: The View at The Palm for the island from above, or a day at Atlantis Aquaventure. Evening on the Dubai Marina Walk.
Day 5 — Abu Dhabi day trip
The capital is about 90 minutes away by road. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (free, with a dress code and online booking) and the Louvre Abu Dhabi fit comfortably into one day.

Dubai in 7 days
With a full week, slow the pace and add one of these:
Hatta
Dubai’s mountain enclave near the Omani border, with the Hatta Dam, kayaking and hiking trails — about 90 minutes’ drive. Best in the cooler months.
Sharjah
The neighbouring emirate’s museums and restored Heart of Sharjah district make an easy half-day trip.
Sharjah travel guideTheme parks or shopping
Ski Dubai at Mall of the Emirates, Dubai Parks and Resorts, or Global Village during its winter season (usually from autumn to spring).
A second desert experience
A morning dune-buggy or quad session, a hot-air balloon flight at sunrise, or an overnight desert camp.
Getting between the stops
The Dubai Metro Red Line connects most of this itinerary: Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station for Downtown, Al Fahidi and Al Ghubaiba on the Green Line for Bur Dubai, and Al Ras or Gold Souq for Deira. One Nol card works on the Metro, the Dubai Tram and public buses, and the traditional abras across the Creek charge a small fare, usually paid in cash.
Palm Jumeirah, the Jumeirah beaches and desert pickups are easiest by taxi, ride-hailing or the tour’s own transfer. Leave extra time on weekday evenings, when Sheikh Zayed Road is at its busiest.
Adapting the plan
With children
Swap the museum morning for the Dubai Aquarium, add a water-park day on Palm Jumeirah, and choose a private or gentler desert safari for younger children.
In summer
Start at sunrise, spend midday indoors — malls, the aquarium, Museum of the Future, Ski Dubai — and move beach and souk time to the evening.
On a layover
With one day, stay near the airport and choose either Downtown or Deira and the Creek; both are a short Metro ride from DXB.
