Where to Stay in Dubai
Dubai is large and most sights sit along one long coastal strip, so your base decides how much time you spend in taxis. This guide matches each main area to the kind of trip it suits, with links to live hotel options in each one.

Dubai’s main areas at a glance
The Dubai Metro Red Line runs parallel to Sheikh Zayed Road from the airport through Deira, Downtown and Al Barsha to Dubai Marina. Staying within walking distance of a station is the single most useful filter if you do not plan to rent a car.
Downtown Dubai & Business Bay
The skyline district around Burj Khalifa, The Dubai Mall and the Dubai Fountain. The boulevard is walkable, the Metro is close, and Business Bay next door along the Dubai Water Canal adds many more hotels and serviced apartments, often at lower rates than the boulevard itself. The trade-off: no beach, and evening traffic around the mall is heavy.

Towers around a man-made marina, with the JBR public beach, The Walk and Bluewaters Island a short stroll away. It is the liveliest area for restaurants and evenings out, and the Dubai Tram links it to the Metro. It is about 30–40 minutes by road from Downtown and further from the airport.

The palm-shaped island is almost entirely resorts, beach clubs and residences. It suits a holiday built around the pool and the sea, and families who want Atlantis Aquaventure and The Lost Chambers Aquarium close by. Sightseeing elsewhere means taxis or the Palm Monorail to the mainland.

Low-rise beachside neighbourhoods between Downtown and the Marina, home to Kite Beach, Jumeirah Public Beach and resorts around the Burj Al Arab and Madinat Jumeirah. Quieter than the Marina; you will rely on taxis because the Metro runs inland.
Deira & Bur Dubai
The historic centre on both banks of Dubai Creek: the Gold and Spice Souks, abra boat crossings, Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood and a wide choice of older mid-range and budget hotels. It is close to DXB and on both Metro lines, but far from the beaches and new districts.

A practical residential district around Mall of the Emirates and Ski Dubai, on the Red Line roughly halfway between Downtown and the Marina. Good for mid-range hotels and apartment stays when you want to reach both ends of the city.

Garhoud, Al Qusais and Deira hotels sit minutes from DXB’s terminals, and the Red Line serves Terminals 1 and 3. Ideal for one night on a layover or before an early flight; less so for a beach holiday.

Best area by type of trip
First time in Dubai
Downtown or Business Bay for the landmarks and Metro access. If you want a beach as well, split the stay: a few nights Downtown, then the Marina or the Palm.
Families with children
Palm Jumeirah or Jumeirah beach resorts with kids’ clubs and pools, or Downtown for the aquarium and mall. Dubai Parks and Resorts (Legoland Dubai and other parks) is far south, near Jebel Ali.
Couples
Palm Jumeirah and Jumeirah for resort stays, or Dubai Marina for evenings out along the water.
On a budget
Deira, Bur Dubai and Al Barsha usually offer the lowest nightly rates; choose a hotel near a Metro station to keep transport costs down.
Short layover
Stay by the airport in Garhoud or Deira. With a full day, Deira’s souks and the Creek are close; Downtown is a short Metro ride away.
Summer trips (June–September)
Heat makes walking between sights hard. A hotel connected to a mall or Metro station, or a resort with shaded pools, makes the biggest difference.
Booking tips
Check the tourism fee
Dubai hotels add a per-room, per-night Tourism Dirham fee that is usually paid at the property. Check whether a quoted rate includes it.
Watch the season
November to March is peak season with the highest rates; big events and holidays push prices up further. Summer rates are usually the lowest of the year.
Measure distance to the Metro
“Near the Metro” can mean a long walk in the heat. Look at the map on each hotel page before you book.
