Day 1: Culture and History

Morning: Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

Start your trip at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque — Abu Dhabi’s most iconic landmark. Arrive early (9:00 AM) to avoid crowds and heat.

  • Duration: 1-2 hours
  • Dress code: Modest dress required. Abayas and robes provided at entrance.
  • Entry: Free

See our Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque guide for full details.

Lunch: Local Cuisine

Head to a restaurant in the city center for Emirati or Middle Eastern cuisine. Try Al Fanar Restaurant for traditional Emirati food in a nostalgic setting.

Afternoon: Qasr Al Hosn and Heritage Village

Visit Qasr Al Hosn, the oldest stone building in Abu Dhabi and now a museum telling the city’s story. Then head to the Heritage Village for a recreated traditional village with crafts, demonstrations, and views of the city skyline.

Evening: Abu Dhabi Corniche

Walk along the Corniche — an 8-kilometer waterfront promenade with beaches, parks, and cafes. Watch the sunset over the Arabian Gulf. Have dinner at one of the restaurants along the Corniche or nearby Al Markaziyah area.

Day 2: Art and Entertainment

Morning: Louvre Abu Dhabi

Start at the Louvre Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat Island. This universal museum features art and artifacts from around the world, housed in a stunning building designed by Jean Nouvel.

  • Duration: 2-3 hours
  • Tickets: Book online in advance
  • Tip: The silver dome creates a “rain of light” effect — best experienced mid-morning

Afternoon: Yas Island

Head to Yas Island for an afternoon of entertainment. Choose one theme park based on your interests:

  • Ferrari World — For thrill seekers (world’s fastest roller coaster)
  • Warner Bros. World — For families with children (indoor, air-conditioned)
  • Yas Waterworld — For water fun (outdoor, best in cooler months)
  • SeaWorld Abu Dhabi — For marine life and conservation

See our Yas Island guide for ticket options and tips.

Evening: Yas Marina

End your trip at Yas Marina, a waterfront dining and entertainment area. The marina is beautifully lit at night, with restaurants offering a range of cuisines and price points. If you are visiting during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend (usually late November/early December), the atmosphere is electric.

Optional Add-Ons

If you have extra time or want to extend your trip:

  • Desert safari — An evening safari with dune bashing and BBQ dinner. See our Dubai desert safari guide (similar experiences are available in Abu Dhabi).
  • Sir Bani Yas Island — A nature reserve about 2 hours from the city, offering wildlife drives and luxury accommodation.
  • Mangrove kayaking — Explore Abu Dhabi’s mangrove forests by kayak. Several operators offer guided tours.

Practical Tips

  • Transport: Taxis are the easiest way to get around. The Metro is being developed but not yet comprehensive.
